Xander Smith) Burns writes thus : " The priest anathemas may threat — Predicament, Sir, that we're baith in ; But when honour's reveille is beat, The holy artillery's naething. " These brave lines Scott Douglas (Paterson's Burns, I. 336) assigns to "about August, 1786.
