There is, however, one aspect of this present co-operation which should henceforth require pubHc attention, namely, the basic idea under- lying every one of these examining boards as now constituted is the pro- tection of the profession rather than the protection of the public. It is true that the reason advanced for giving state authority to professional boards and for having the state name these boards is that their duties concern the i)ublic welfare.
