Gentlemen : In reply to your letter asking us to effect insurance on your cargo of sugar to be shipped from Havana by vessel "Charlotte/' Capt. Nevers, on October sth for this port, al- low us to say that we can do as you desire only at a very high premium. Weather forecasts for the period that your vessel will be at sea show that there is considerable clanger from storms In the Southern Atlantic at that time. Under- writers are therefore un...willing to take ordinary risks. We find that we can insure for a premium of about 8%. This is, of course, a very high rate, but we think that it will be impossible to secure anything better. We are unwilling, how- ever, to complete the insurance without consult- ing you.
