Wiseman's shepherd, who taught his dog to collect the sheep together, as well as he could have done himself, and with much less trouble; indeed it was pleasing to see him run sea in- juring ^across the field, when he was fold, as if he had really understood what William said to him, and lie would perform many pranks, such as begging, - shouldering a stick, fetch and carry, &c.
William was a very good shepherd, and took great care of the flock ; he received some prizes from the Society of Farmer...s (who unite to reward merit) for bis prudent management of the sheep. He attracted the notice of Farmer Luckless, and one da YJ as he was smoking his pipe at the window, as \Yilliam passed by, unhandsomely offered him more wages than he re- ceived from his brother Mr. Wise- man, if he would become his ser- vant, but he very properly refused the offer, saying, he could not think of doing such an act, without the consent and advice of a brother who had brought him up so kindly, when he could not help himself.
