What reading level is The Rose Society book?
To quickly assess the difficulty of the text, read a short excerpt:

The dawn has arrived overcast and windy, the remnants of last night’s storm still on the horizon. On board and belowdecks, the Daggers gather around Maeve and Raffaele. The normally bold queen is subdued today, slumped against a stack of pillows and impatiently waving away her brothers. Tristan sits some distance from everyone, looking on at his exhausted sister with a straight face, as if not quite seeing her. Still, every time she winces, he twitches, ready to defend her and helpless to do so.M...aeve’s eyes are fixed on Raffaele, who has just woken. His skin is deathly pale, and his hands still tremble. Michel wrings out a warm cloth from a basin, and Gemma places it gingerly on his head. She squeezes his arm.“What do you remember?” she asks him.Raffaele doesn’t answer for a moment. His attention shifts to Lucent, who sits beside Maeve, gritting her teeth as a servant binds her broken wrist. Raffaele’s thoughts seem to be far away. “Adelina,” he finally says. “She has progressed rapidly in her illusions of touch.”

Okay, so this book was wayyy better than the young elites. i mean the writing was so good and the characters were amazing. I liked adelina a lot cuz i feel like i sometimes resemble her, the way she always has dark thoughts and whispers in her head and the way she wants to get revenge for everything. I love how she swayed the inquisitors into her side and how she made Teren her captive. I also really like teren (even tho he is a villian) cuz he just made the book way better. Like i felt rlly bad tho when giulietta betrayed him and when adelina made him mad enough to kill his lover. I also love his taunting and teasing nature. This book was epic and so excited to read the third one!

Reading this makes me have a whole knew perspective of everything I read. I never thought that a villain’s story could be so deep. It sends shivers down my spine reading about Adelina’s thoughts. Although I can’t believe how determined Adelina was to seize the throne. This was the darkest books I ever read, and I have a certain feeling after reading it. Overall I think this was a great book it really connected me to the characters and how they felt. Even though it is quite dark I really like it, and I feel like I’m part of the side! This is a side note but I feel like the song Queen of Broken Heart fits Adelina very well if you heard the song you would understand.

I liked the progression of this book better than The Young Elites. I felt the writing was better too. And the characters who were mere sparks in the first book grew so much bigger with more depth and emotion. Adelina, though villianous, still had conflicting emotions and it was powerful reading/going through that with her. I loved this book....unfortunately I don't have the third one.

There were moments when I was cheering Adelina on, to seize the throne, but mostly I was cringing. Kudos to Marie Lu for writing such a tumultuous female lead

Not my cup of tea. It was ok, but lacked the excitement Marie Lu's books usually contain. It was very different because it was written from Adelinas perspective, but I think it is still wort reading because the third book was very enjoyable.
