" He sought to gain the support of the Free Soilers in Mas- sachusetts, and encouraged their enterprise. Even when he denounced the nomination of General Taylor as " not fit to be made, " he declared that he could stand on the Buffalo Platform ; its Anti-Slavery planks were good sound Whig timber ; he himself had had some agency in getting them out, and did not see the necessity of a new organization.
