They declared "that this law contains religious clauses as well as political clauses; that the former are absolute, whereas the latter, being intended to govern the people of Israel in Palestine, are no longer applicable as they do not form a corporate nation. Thus, poly gamy, which was permitted by the Mosaic law, being nowadays merely optional and out of usage in the West, is to be considered as prohibited.
