Greensburg was founded on the site of a blockhouse of the Revolution. Hannastown had been wiped off the map of Westmoreland County, July 13, 1782, by one of the most cruel Indian attacks on record. The Indians, under the famous Seneca chief, Kyashuta, arrived from across the Allegheny River early in the morning, applied the torch to the historic village, and carried some of its defenseless inhabitants into captivity.
