Recurrent mania occurs as a rule in neurotic persons who, having had several attacks of acute mania, pass into a state of permanent instability, so that they are never long without recurring attacks of excitement, which, as a rule, resemble one another almost in every detail ; such attacks may extend over thirty or forty years, leaving the patient, between the attacks, sane and with little mental defect.
