Sodium carbonate 30 grams Borax-glass 10. 7 " Litharge 60 " Flour (R. P. 12) 2i Silica 12. 8 " This charge contains 17. 0 grams of CaSi0 3 and 34. 6 grams of Na 2 SiO 3, or about twice as much sodium bi-silicate as calcium bi-silicate. Figure 3 shows that such a combination will melt at a reasonably low temperature. The lead silicate and the borax- glass will, of course, reduce this melting temperature materially. Following the procedure outlined above it may readily be de- termined that for pu

Sodium carbonate 30 grams Borax-glass 23. 6 " Litharge 60 " Flour 2J Silica. .. 28. 3 " THE CRUCIBLE ASSAY 167 This charge contains approximately equal amounts of the bi-silicates of sodium and calcium, as well as litharge and borax- glass. It fuses without difficulty and gives a glassy slag and a good separation of lead.
Figure 44 gives at a glance the quantity of reagents other than flour required to flux one assay-ton of any mixture of limestone and silica.
