Probably this unauthorised change, of local and personal interest only, would have passed unnoticed had not Lord Llanover, as Lord- Lieutenant of Monmouthshire, declined to permit Mr. Herbert of Clytha to qualify for the magistracy in his new name, or to grant a commission in the Militia to the son in any name but that of Jones.
