I knew, however, that my career in the British India was ruined, as a shipping company, like Napoleon the Great, never forgive a mistake, though like the same individual they may possibly condone a crime if it redounds to their advantage, so I left the service then arid there, nor did I leave it with any regret as the work was most uninteresting and my fellow officers about as uninteresting as the work.
