Even if we should regard the Psalm as directly Messianic, we must conclude that the author had not risen to the conception of the perfect spirituality of the Messiah's Kingdom, but still regarded it as having a local seat on Mount Zion, when he says : " The Lord shall stretch thy strong sceptre out from Zion " ; and that he had in his mind not Jehovah's throne in heaven, but His Theocratic throne in Jerusalem, when he speaks of the king as taking his seat on the throne at the Lord's right hand.
