What reading level is Descriptive Inorganic General Chemistry. a Text book for Colleges book?
To quickly assess the difficulty of the text, read a short excerpt:

Sodium carbonate occurs in some mineral waters ( Karlsbad) and as a remainder after evaporating the water of alkaline lakes, it is also a constituent of the ashes of sea-plants,* and it was from these that the soda of commerce was made until the end of the last century. During the period of the French Revolution, a large reward was offered for the discovery of a process by means of which sodium carbonate could be prepared from the chloride, as the latter substance was a product which was both c
...heap and easily purified.
Nicholas LeBlanc,t owing to this inducement, discovered a process which has been used with but little modification up to the present day. The chemical changes upon which this method depends are as follows : — Sodium chloride is treated with sulphuric acidy when hydrochlo- ric acid and primary sodium sulphate are formed : — Na CI + Ha SO4 = Na HSO4 + H CI.
The primary sulphate is then heated with sodium chloride, produ- cing hydrochloric acid and the secondary sulphate : — Na CI + Na HSO4 = Na, SO4 + H CI.
