He received his education in the public schools of Hampden and in Monson Academy, graduating from the latter in 1901. After his graduation, he entered the employ of Forbes & Wallace, where he remained for five years, and then went with W. D. Kinsman for an- other five years. During the following three years he was with Smith & Mur- ray, handling dry goods and groceries, at the end of which time he entered the em- ploy of the E.
