William B. Irish married (second) Lydia Cadwallader, born at Brownsville, Pa., daughter of Septimus and Sarah (Dallas) Cadwallader. Children : Elias H., at- torney in Pittsburgh, and State Senator, died Nov. 24, 1866; Dallas Cadwallader, of further mention; William Beckford (2), born in 1835, died in 1853; Ellen, born in 1837, died in 1897, married William Stanton ; Nathaniel, a lieutenant in Hampton Battery F, Pennsylvania Light Artillery, and later its captain.

...second son of Wil- liam B. and Lydia (Cadwallader) Irish, was born in what is now Lawrence county. Pa., April 3, 1832, died in Pittsburgh, Nov. 7, 1899. His boyhood home was New Lisbon, Ohio, but in 1858 his mother came to New Brighton, Pa., with her children, and later to Pitts- burgh. The young man completed his education at Washington and Jefferson College, and afterward con- ducted successfully a wholesale and retail commission business in Pittsburgh. In 1861 he was appointed by President Lincoln a captain in the regular army and as- signed to Company G, Thirteenth Regiment, United States Infantry, a regiment then commanded by Col.
