Xxxviii. 10. ^EZEKIAH, having been sick, and re- covered, made this Song of Thanks- giving ; and setteth forth the mercy of God, by considering these particu- lars : The time of his age ; the fears of his soul ; the rooting out of his posterity ; the violence of his disease ; and the forgiveness of his sins, added to the restoring of his health. But, in the principal sense, it is a special 90 HYMNS AND SONGS Thanksgiving for that cure which Jesus Christ wrought upon the human nature, being in danger of everlasting perdition : for Hezekiah which signifieth helped of the Lord, typifieth mankind labouring under the sickness of sin and death. Isaiah, who brought the medicine that cured him (and is interpreted the Salvation of the Lord, ) figured our blessed Redeem- er, by whom the human nature is restored; and whose sending into the world was mystically shewed by the miracle of the sun's retrogadation.
