Did he divine the truth, that China would rise to protect her religion and try to drive out civilisation, or design his Kaiserbild with the in- tention of inducing his co-civilisers to nag at China, with the knowledge that the pin-pricks would sooner or later touch a tender spot, and that her subjugation would follow ?
