What reading level is In the Likeness of Men Short Studies in the Life of Our Lord On Earth book?
To quickly assess the difficulty of the text, read a short excerpt:

The oriental races, as a rule, think more than we do of garments as indicative of a man's position, and even as sym- bolic of his character. Thus in Scripture a man in grief immediately rends his clothes, or wears sackcloth and puts ashes or earth on his head. We read there of garments of salvation and a robe of righteousness. We must be " clothed " with humility ; must have our feet " shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace " ; must " above all . . . Put on charity, " as " the bond {i.... E. Girdle) of perfectness. " In our portrait of Christ, then, we cannot neglect even the clothes He wore. He was " found in fashion as a man, " adopting the speech, habits, dress of His time. And though His dress may not tell us very much, it may help 59 6o IN THE LIKENESS OF MEN towards a clearer idea of Him as " made in the likeness of men. " Our Lord does not say much about dress, and what He does say warns us against making too much of it, or fancying it of supreme importance. The rich man, clothed in purple and fine linen, is in His view morally inferior to Lazarus, the half-naked beggar at his gate.
