... Diacetic Acid. This test is useful for showing the presence in urine of relatively large amounts of diacetic acid. It is made as follows : To 5 c - c - f urine in a test tube add ferric chlorid solution (10 per cent. ), drop by drop. At first a white precipitate of ferric phosphate is obtained, then, as the addition of the reagent is continued, a dark red color is produced if diacetic acid is present (in more than traces).
