Professor Stuart, of the Andover Theological Seminary, addressed two letters upon tibe subject of relig- ious liberty to Rev. Wm. E. Channing. He ascertained that Dr Channing had no inten- tion of answering them. He therefore prepared. , and in December, 1830, published an answer in two letters to Professor Stuart, upon the sub- ject of religious liberty. Professor Stuart had -denied the charge, that it was the tendency of orthodox measures to abridge religious liberty. This denial could be met only by an array of facts. This Mr Whitman attempted and in the attempt he was signally successful. The charge was most fully substantiated by a great variety of well authenticated facts.
