His son, he said, was worse off than any one in the King'sservice, for all others could earn distinction; added, that idleness wasthe mother of all vice, and that it gave him much pain to see his onlyson abandon himself to debauchery and bad company; but that it would becruel to blame a young man, forced as it were into these follies, and tosay nothing against him by whom he was thus forced.
