In 1853 Dr. Earle gave a course of lectures on insanity at the New York College of Physicians and Surgeons, and in 1854 published his treatise on " Blood-letting in Mental Disorders, " from which quotations have already been made. Belief in the sanguinary doctrines of Rush had slowly become less general ; but blood-letting by the lancet was still continued at some asylums, and local superficial bleeding at more.
