What reading level is Mountains And Mountain Climbing Records of Adventure And Enterprise Among the F book?
To quickly assess the difficulty of the text, read a short excerpt:

, lies the fine island of Mauritius. It owes its name to the Dutch, its original discoverers, who so christened it in honour of their great statesman, Prince Maurice of Holland. From them it passed to the French, who re- named it He de France, and held it for about a century, when it was conquered by the British. Its possession was confirmed to us by the treaties of 1814 and 1815 ; and we restored to it its old title. Thickly wooded and copiously watered, with a healthy climate and a fertile so...il, it forms a valuable colony.
The Mauritius is traversed by several mountain- chains, the culminating point of which, named the Peter-Botte, rises 2874 feet above the sea. For a long time this singular peak, with its round and barren crest, frequently hidden by impenetrable mists, defied the efforts of the most enthusiastic mountain-climbers, and UNSUCCESSFUL ATTEMPT. 173 remained one of the virgin summits of the world. Unless, indeed, we accept the tradition which connects its name with that of a mysterious traveller who ascended it without assistance.
