There was no Catholic church in the vicinity, and it meant a drive of miles to reach one. About a year after settling here, Daniel Ward built a house on Third Cliff, probably the first house ever built there. As time went on relatives and friends of the first comers arrived, until at the end of ten years there was quite a large Irish colony; then these faithful people got together and made plans to have mass celebrated in Scituate.
