At Wallingford Leveva held a Aaga valued at two pence, while at Reading the church which had been given to Battle Abbey had formerly been held by Leveva an Abbess \ Denchworth also, which Robert of Stratford had obtained, ...had been held by Leveva, quaedam libera ftmina. It may be added, however, that the name also occurs as if it were that. of a man ; e. g. in Bedfordshire we find Leveva Homo Regi^ Edwardi, The form Ailric appears in several counties both before and after * Sec ante, p. 214.

* It has been imagixied by the Reading historians that the foundation of which Leveva vras abbess was in that town. There was a religious foundation of some kind there, which the original charter of Henry I.
