He who had a right to stand on the steps of the greatest throne in the world sat down upon the ground, and fasted and wept and prayed before the God of heaven ; and this was his confession and his prayer: "O Lord God of heaven, we have dealt very corruptly against thee, and have not kept the commandments, 150 NEHEMIAH nor the statutes, nor the judgments, which thou commandedst thy servant Moses.
