Xow, as then, we look unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith — we look from the ends of the earth, and are saved.
But it may be remarked further, in regard to this point, that the faith of God's people is always the same also in its influence. Its influence on the minds of the patriarchs has been already referred to. It separated them, we have seen, from the world, fixed their hopes and affections on heaven, and conducted them through life in noble acts of self-denial and piety ; in a... word, it led them to confess that they were strangers and pil- grims on the earth. is precisely the same now. It forms in them the same frame of feehng, detaches them also from the world, and leads them to the same confession that this is not their home. ''Here, " in the language of the apostle, "they have no continuing city, but they seek one to come. " In the language of the same apostle, they have set their affections on things above, not on things on the earth ; and they are dead to earth, and their lives are hid with Christ in God.
