Jehosaphat Diggnan, who presided over a few select spirits, whose religious tenets were hardly known, but who numbered certain voters among them, and made no secret that money was the god of their political princi- ples. These sucking pigs had a new kind of stuffing, of which Hogden was the grand inventor; this was simply a bit of paper, which, when opened, discovered to the de- lighted recipient a fifty pound note ; and it was marvellous what a stimulus to electioneering zeal a dainty of this kind gave to the reverend recipients!
