The shadows lay long across the meadow, and the forest was a mysteri- ous alternation of smoky-looking shade, impene- trable darkness, and the brilliance of sky through tiny openings. "Gee!" said he at last. "If the fairies don't pull off a fandango every moonlight night, they don't know a good dance-hall when they see it!'* We broke through the bushes to the meadow.
