The mistake we suffer from in many of our churches is dinginess. Nor should they be necessarily of plain colours. The common type of frontal usually consists of a plain material edged with fringe below, and having a sacred mo...nogram or cross embroidered in the centre, and perhaps stripes on each side. It is not a happy type. The sacred monogram and cross are overdone, and the covering would look all the better without either of them. Where an elaborately embroidered frontal cannot be afforded, figured tapestry is far better for the purpose than a plain coloured material. The figuring of the pattern can be further enriched by picking it out with gold thread. If the pattern be bold, a rich effect is produced and it can be well seen, even at the west end of the church.
