The term "competency rating", implying the algebraic sum of the individual's specific abilities and disabilities as d...emonstrated by his success as a member of human society, best interprets the character of the rating under discussion. In this connection it may be stated that no ratings lower than 2. 3 were given, or, in other words, no students were found so deficient in general competency as to fall below the "doubtful" group. In view of the fact that the members of the class had under- gone a strenuous process of selection in fulfilling the entrance require- ments and surviving at least two years of college work, it is not surprising to find a complete absence of " 1 " ratings.
