He denounced them because they aimed at a " violation of the C...onstitution, "_aud because he was averse to an agitation which would " sunder the Union. " The agitation of the question in reference to the Territories furnished a more extended theatre, and a more fruitful field for excitement and animosity. Then it was that the South fell never to rise, unless she does in the might of a separate republic.
