Meanwhile, the rioters kept strengthening the barricades betweenThirty-seventh and Forty-third Streets, in Eighth Avenue, by lashingcarts, wagons, and telegraph poles together with wire stripped from thelatter. The cross streets were also barricaded. Time passed on, and yetthe bayonets of he expected reinforcement from the arsenal did not appear.
