What reading level is The Slater And Jeanes Funds An Educators Approach to a Difficult Social Proble book?
To quickly assess the difficulty of the text, read a short excerpt:

Slater invited a very distinguished group of men to become the first trustees of his fund ; Ex-President Ruther- ford B. Hayes of Ohio, Chief Justice Waite of Washington, Mr. William E. Dodge of New York, Bishop Phillips Brooks of Massachusetts, President Daniel C. Gilman of John Hop- kins University, Mr. John H. Stewart of New York, Ex- Governor Alfred H. Colquitt of Georgia, Mr. Morris K. Jesup of New York, and Rev. James P. Boyce of Kentucky. It is easily apparent that these are the distingu...ished names in America, in business, in statesmanship, and in religion. They represented all sections of the country, North and South. The trustees of these two funds have always been men of this type. Whatever else may be said of American Negroes, they have a right to be proud of their friends, for the most distinguished men in America have counted it an honor to have a part in the development of the destinies of Negroes in the national life.
It is to the credit of the Slater Fund that here for the first time was laid down the fundamental principle that the leader- ship of the South was an essential element in the development of Negro education.
