The capitalists took advantage of the terror of the ruling class, and tried to nndo all that had been done between 1833 and 1847.
Master-Tactics. — 1. They discharged many of the young persons and women, and restored night-work for the men.

5. They introduced the shifting- system. This had two forms, (a) They got the labourer into the fac- tory for a time, sent him out again, called him i. N, and so on during the 15 hours ©f the faccory-day, never losing hold of Iiim all this time, although his total time of labour might be only 10 hours. (6) They THE STUDENTS' MARX. 63 shitted the individual worker from one kind of labour to another, from one factory to another, with, as con- sequence, insuperable difficulties to the factory in- spectors.
