A general formula, supposed to apply to all liquids, had been previously given by the same physicist * giving the density at any temperature 6 in the form Such a formula, of course, cannot embrace such cases as the anomalous expansio[i of water at 4°, for unless k be supposed also a function of the temperature, the density will continually decrease as the temperaturo rises.
