Those are matters not to be discussed here; suffice it to say that Mr. Stone and I were per- sonally friendly, and on the occasion of his visit with me his eyes filled with tears as he took my hand and told me that his faith in me as a man 98 WALLS AND BABS had never wavered, and that notwithstanding the fact that we were on opposite sides, he had never permitted a reflection upon me as a man to re- main unchallenged.
