1 The fact is, that, as early as 1578, Thomas Blenerhasset, or Blener Hasset, published his "second part" of the work, and we give the full title of this separate contribution to the same design: " The Seoonde part of the Mirrour for Magistrates, oonteining the falles of the infortunate Princes of this Lande. From the Conquest of Cassar, unto the commyng of Duke William the Conquerour. — Imprinted by Richard Webster, Anno Domini, 1578. Goe straight and feare not." This motto is... at the bottom of an architectural compartment; and the author's Epistle to his unnamed friend is dated 15th May, 1577. The work contains twelve Legends.
(Sarlg (SngliBf) Cttfratuw. 89 The chief collector of the materials for this work was John Bo- denham, of whom little more is known than that he also exercised his taste in the selection of the productions contained in " Eng- land's Helicon," 1600 and 1614, (reprinted in 1812.) They are, however, essentially different ; for " England's Helicon " consists of entire poems, by various authors whose names are given, while "Bel-vedere" is made up of single lines and couplets (more being studiously avoided) taken from the works of a long list of poets, whose names are not found in connection with any of the extracts.
