The copy in the Advocates' Library is the only one observed of the size with this form of the woodcut of a Calvaire. Owing to the title having been torn out, it is impossible to ascertain the date of issue, but it appears probable that it is the first edition. Possibly, however, the very curious edition of the same size (No. 179) may be preferred to that position. The text of all the copies is alike, and it is the same as that noted in Histoire et Martyre (No. 180) as... "petit livre de sa Mort. " In one or other form it was certainly issued separately in 1588, prior to the publication of Histoire et Martyre (No. 180). It was written by Adam Blackwood, or some other supporter of Queen Mary, from information furnished by Bourgoing, her physician.
