" Three of the assailants of Miss Melton, an American teacher in Mosul, have been convicted by the Ottoman courts, and I am advised that an appeal against the acquittal of the remaining five has been taken by the Turkish prosecuting officer." The case was tried at Mosul, on the river Tigris, opposite old Nineveh.
Twelve men were found guilty of the assault The court for the correction of errors, at Bagdad, found that the evidence Justified the conviction of eight of the men, but not of the other four ; and the case was sent back to the trial court for further proceedings.
