He was quieted by the assurance that every effort would be made to obtain assistance ; and, having taken a dose of aperient med icine whose effect was almost immediate, went to bed and remained quiet till morning. He then complained of pain in his back so acute as to make his being moved in any way almost impossible ; and the idea of hurrying on for aid to Jerusalem was quite impracticable.
