What reading level is A French Affair book?
To quickly assess the difficulty of the text, read a short excerpt:

‘When we came before I was too taken up with the girls to look around much.’ ‘Antiques tend to be old,’ said Gina. ‘It’s kind of part of their job description.’ ‘I know,’ said Sally, ‘but I’m not sure I like them. I like things that are newish. It’s all a bit old and moth-eaten here.’ Gina had to admit that the place did seem as if no one had been near it for years, but she suddenly felt territorial on its behalf. ‘These things are clean,’ she said. ‘Look at the shine on that table.’ ‘Hmm. I did...n’t mean things were dirty. I don’t know . . . it’s just a bit – dead.’ Gina knew exactly what her sister meant. Once again, there didn’t seem to be anybody around, neither stallholders nor buyers. She knew that the stallholders took it in turns and they wouldn’t all be there at one time, but there was a distinct lack of bustle.
To Gina’s relief, Sally managed to be calm in the face of Oscar, who to his credit didn’t actually move when they went into Matthew’s office: the door was open and as they were now part of things they felt they didn’t need to knock.
