A number of captives follow their chief. One of them with his face bowed to the ground seeks to excite the pity of the conquerors. The flags of the conquered are stamped under foot. Behind Bonaparte floats a flag on whose folds is written " 22nd Brigade." On the north ai^d south sides of the arch, at the same distance from the ground and of the same height and length, are bas-reliefs representing, the one on the north side, the Battle of Austerlitz ; the one on the south side, the Battle of Jemmapes.
