In the latter part of this year the note of pre- paration for hostile movements was sounded through the country, and Great Britain was selected as the chief object of warlike feeling.
It is not the design of this history to enter into any detail of the causes which led to this state of feeling, nor to discuss or give a judgment on the merits of the questions that were at issue, any further than they had a bearing upon the interests of pure religion.
