Mr. John Rodman worked his farm and devoted only a part of his time to missionary work among the Swedish settlers. At times, however, he traveled extensively and, in spite of a very deficient education, he accomplished a great deal for his Master. Mr. Nels Silvander devoted himself to the Mission Friends' work in Red Wing and took a ...very important part in the development of the Mission Church at that place, though he never entered the ministry. And origin- 15 226 SWEDISH-AAIERICAXS OF MINNESOTA ally none of these men, with the exception of Mr. Anjou, had the sHghtest intention of going into the ministry, or even to do any special missionary work, but the circumstances seemed almost to force them into the work.
These pioneers soon had the satisfaction of welcoming other co- laborers to the field, men with some experience in the ministry.
