Fierce persecution and open violence were moreover brought to bear on the Missionaries, and the few who ventuied to attend upon their instructions. One day the King's son, club in hand, came in fury to kill Mr. Lyth, who had refused to purchase part of a melon from the King's favourite wife. Mr. Lyth escaped to his bedroom, and Mr. Hunt held the angry chief in conversation till his rage had cooled down.
