The main crop of cabbage is produced from plants which are set during June and July, and at this hot season of the year it is with considerable difficulty that plants can be conveyed by express long distances, even with packing carefully ; and the carrier's charges are so high, that on purchased plants the first cost is frequently doubled or even trebled by the time they reach the planter.
