Lieutenant-General Hiirs division of the combined British and Portuguese army broke up from the left bank of the Tagus an the IJth ultimo, and crossing the river at Villa Velha, the , head of the column reached Atalaya^ 5 leagues on this side of Castel Branco, on the 22d.
