Barnouw, teacher of Dutch in the, Gymnasium" (Grammar School) of the Hague ; not ...only because he speaks and writes English like his native tongue, but also and especially because, by his excellent translations of the, Canterbury Tales", amongst other productions, he has proved himself a man in whom erudition and taste are united. As soon as we heard that Dr. Barnouw was going out to the United States, for a year, as a staff- writer of the well-known weekly, The Nation", we felt a desire to re- quest him to act as a Queen Wilhelmina Lecturer during that period as well. He proved quite willing to comply with this request.
